TASK 3 : DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN
![]() |
| Sultan Rey Delviero_The Love Embrace of The Universe_Task 3 |
Rationale :
The original artwork delivers the meaning of how us as beings of the universe protects and cares for each other. In the painting, it is depicted by The Universe, Mother Earth, humans, animal, and plants living in harmony and embracing one another. It also shows the painter, Frida Kahlo's gratefulness for the world and her culture.
Though it carries a very sentimental meaning, it is easily misunderstood as there are no means of elaboration for its message in the painting. It also contains mature elements, which might hinder someone from understanding and appreciating this artwork.
I attempted to cover the mature elements to make it more acceptable to a larger audience, such as children. I also incorporated wording and text in the artwork to make the artwork more understandable in a glance.
Although the background has been changed to a singular toned one, it increases the emphasis for the main part of the artwork, while keeping the symmetrical balance by making the text's colors light and dark, referring to the removed background's colors.
Changing the background also preserves the grainy texture of the original painting, keeping the harmony of the painting's antique and vintage feeling, supported by the smudgy and smeared text style to enhance the theme more.

REFLECTION
This module taught me how to identify, implement, and improve aspects of Design Principles in every form of design. For instance, I have never noticed before how powerful wording can be in an artwork to elaborate meanings, and how it affects people's experiences in perceiving an artwork. This module also opens up new perspectives of designing for me, as i learned how even the simplest elements could make an impact in a certain artwork.
I really enjoyed how well we are guided in this module, from gathering information to sketching ideas for us to improve our chosen artworks. We were consulted one by one by Mr. Fauzi, which really helped us in our process of learning. He always tells us how to improve, what needs to be removed, and what we need to do in a very clear and honest way. Although, I had some difficulty in setting up my E-Portofolio correctly, such as embedding the MIB and creating jumplinks, as it is something I haven't learned yet in my previous modules.
At first, as a student that is enrolled in the Fashion Design course, I was doubting about how the materials I learned in this module will be useful and correlates to my course's learning process. Then, after learning and processing the knowledge I've gotten from this module, I realized how important Design Principles are, as its practice is not only limited to a certain way of designing, but is applicable to every design form. In my case, to garments, digital illustration, and typography.
This module opened up new perspectives for me in terms of designing, that having certain rules and principles are crucial in making our artworks more presentable. Lastly, I hope I can implement what I have learned in this module on my future designs.
