TASK
Task 1 (Week 1 - 3) : Hatching with Pen
Week 1
|
|
| Fig 1.1 Lecture |
This was our first class with Mr. Jasmi Rejab. We were explained on what
the hatching technique was, and we were shown examples from our senior's
previous works. Prior to this class, we were asked to prepare several A3
papers and drawing pen with sizes ranging from 0,2 - 0,8.
|
|
| Fig 1.2 Editorial Image |
After the brief, we were tasked to find and print one editorial
photoshoot picture with the theme "Avant Garde" to be drawn with the
hatching technique on paper. The picture above was the one I chose.
|
|
| Fig 1.3 Scribbling Demo |
Before we start hatching the image, we watched a demo by our lecturer
on how to trace the image outlines on paper, which was by scribbling the
back of the printed image with a pencil, then outline the image on a
blank paper.
|
|
| Fig 1.4 Hatching Demo |
After that, we watched a demo on how to hatch. We were taught to
start from the smallest size of the pen then gradually build up the
opacity to the desired shade.
|
|
| Fig 1.5 1st Trial and Error |
Next, we were assigned to work on our trial and error. We tried to hatch
with pencil first to get used to the technique first before using the pen
to stroke. We practiced in rectangular boxes to attempt different
thickness and shades. The picture above was my first trial and
error.
|
|
| Fig 1.6 2nd Trial and Error |
After practicing more, I realized that my first trial and error was too
thick and inconsistent, because I had a hard time on controlling the
pressure I have to put on the paper. Thus, I tried starting from the 0,05
and 0,1 pen instead, to compromise with the problem I had. The picture was
my second trial and error which was approved by my lecturer to proceed to
the actual drawing on an Illustration Board.

On this week, I proceeded to hatch my image on the Illustration board
for the submission. Both of the pictures above are the progress I made
throughout the second week.

TASK01 : Hatching Pen
Description : Black and white with hatching technique
Theme : Avant-garde
Media : Black Artline/Drawing Pen (0,05-0,8) on A3 Illustration
Board
TASK 1 REFLECTION :
Throughout working on this task, I learned about how using pens to draw
is not just about creating strokes. It is also about putting feeling and
soul into it, that makes the artwork a special one. I learned about he
elements of lighting, the technique to create different shades, and body
anatomy, which will be crucial to our career in fashion. Overall, I am
quite satisfied of the outcome I made in this task.
Task 2 (Week 4 - 7) : Color Pencil Scrubbing >
Week 4
|
|
| Fig 2.1 Color Pencil Demo |
On this week after the submission for the previous task has ended, we
begun to move onto the next task, which is applying the scrubbing
technique of color pencils onto an editorial photoshoot with the theme
"Spring & Summer".

Week 5
| Fig 2.3 Task 2 Trial and Error |
This was my first trial and error that got approved. I used one shade of blue and one violet to scrub and overlap with each other. After I got the shade desired, I darkened it more to deepened the shade with black color pencil.
| Fig 2.4 Task Progression |
After I finished my trial and error, I moved onto working on my actual drawing. This was the progress I made during this week. The submission was delayed by one week because of our other ongoing project for Fashion Project 1.

TASK02 : Color Pencil
Description : Scrubbing technique
Theme : Spring and summer
Media : Color Pencil on Illustration board
TASK 2 REFLECTION :
This task is my least favored assignment so far. I wasn't really fond
of my skills with the color pencils, hence I had a lot of difficulties
while working on this assignment, mainly on coloring the skin. But, I am
very grateful to have a lecturer that is willing to personally help me
with my coloring technique, and I am also grateful to be able to learn
how layers and details of color contributes to a garment's beautiful
complexity.
Task 3 (Week 8 - 11) : Marker Overlapping >
Week 8
These are the two attempts I made on the trial and error exercise.
| Fig 3.1 Marker Demo |
On this week, we learned how to apply the overlapping technique with
marker. All of us started with a template that our lecturer drew, so we
could exercise with the drapery and lighting of the image.

Week 9
| Fig 3.5 Progression (1) |
Week 10
| Fig 3.6 Progression (2) |
After getting used to overlapping and blending the marker, I proceeded to
color the areas with the more complex shadows, as well as finding new color
combinations for the other parts.
Week 11

TASK03 : Marker
Description : Marker with overlapping technique
Theme : Sports Illustrated
Media : Marker Pen on Marker Paper
TASK 3 REFLECTION :
This task made me realize that everything we do with passion and
excitement, will turn out fruitful. Personally, I had no experience with
markers prior to this assignment, and this is an entirely new challenge
for me. Turns out, with the guidance of my lecturer, this became one of
my favorite works in this module. I really enjoyed seeing the process of
blending the colors together, and bringing it into life by playing with
the shadows and lighting.
Final Task (Week 12-14) : Water Color & Mixed Media for "Reimagining the Kebaya X OPPO" >
Week 12
After we had our fashion show on Heritage Valley the previous week, we
had some pictures that we took on that day to refer on our drawing in this
final task.

I combined the pose with this picture of the model wearing my kebaya, and put it in ChatGPT as my lecturer briefed, with the prompt "Please combine the pose with the garment".

| Fig 4.3 Combined Pose & Garment |
This was the output that ChatGPT got. This look exactly like my garment, so I proceeded to print and trace it on the watercolor paper.
Week 13

| Fig 4.4 Progression (1) |
I was absent from class this week, as I had to take medical leave. But, I still progressed with my coloring at home. This was the progress I made on the first day working on the artwork with water color.
Week 14

| Fig 4.5 Progression (2) |
On the last week, I had to finish this drawing. I proceeded to color all the remaining parts, and also added and darkened some parts with color pencils, as the assignment was for Mixed Media.
This is a video of me adding the colors of some parts with the color pencils.

Final Task : Mix Media - Dry & Wet
Description : Mix Media with Water Color (Wet) and Color Pencils
(Dry)
Theme : "Reimagining the Kebaya" (from Fashion Project 1)
Media : Water Color Paper
FINAL TASK REFLECTION :
It is such an amazing experience to be able to draw an artwork from my
other form of art, which was the kebaya. Although I had some delay to
work on this task as I was sick, I still enjoyed progressing and working
on this artwork. When the colors and shades starts to show and look
beautiful, I felt very satisfied. Moreover, It looks exactly like how my
garment looks. It also taught me how AI technology can help us in doing
our tasks, as we were encouraged to do it. As someone who is Anti-AI, I
realized that if we could filter what we should and shouldn't do in
utilizing AI and be wise in using it, AI will definitely help us while
leaving room for us to still emphasize our own creativity and hard
work.
REFLECTION
This module is not just about drawing several artworks with different
medias, but it also teaches us about lighting, drapery, shading, and
what types of editorial there are in fashion. What we learned in this
module will definitely be a valuable knowledge that we use while
working in fashion.
This module also encouraged us to look and dig for potentials that we
have within ourselves, as previously, most of us did not even know we
could draw an artwork so beautifully detailed.
Last, I thank my lecturer, Mr. Jasmi Rejab, that has guided us with
tutorials, tips and tricks, and was willing to help each of us
personally.
